![]() They were both highlights of the Thundercats line and are now very sought after by collectors. In addition to some great new figures, we got 3 new vehicles, with the Hovercat, Mutant Fist Pounder and the Thunderclaw, but literally the biggest thing to happen to the Thundercats line were the two large scale playsets released in Series two, the Cat’s Lair and Mumm-Ra’s Tomb Fortress. These new figures would help expand the Thundercats world for future storylines and adventures. The Berserkers featured new mini evil-doers with action features. The Companions were mostly re-packs with a few new robotic bear figures added. In addition, two new sub-sets were added with the Companions and Berserkers series. A new Mummy Mumm-Ra mail-order figure was released for 1986 as well, which could be had for a few proof of purchase points. The bad guys got Grune the Destroyer, Ratar-O and Vultureman. For the heroes, we got Hachiman, Snowman of Hook Mountain and a Tuska Warrior. ![]() The new wave featured 3 good guys and 3 bad guys. The 2nd series of the Thundercats line, gave us 6 brand new figures, along with the original eight figures re-released with the new cardbacks. The Thundercats were most definitely riding a wave of popularity in 1986, that had carried over from the previous year. In short, basically anything that a logo could fit onto at the time. Thundercats merchandise was also spilling out of the action figure realm and into many other categories that were popular with kids at the time, such as clothing, backpacks, school supplies, lunch boxes, night lights, bed linens, plush items, decorations and role play accessories for kids to imitate their favorite characters. This translated into an ultra successful toy line with sales reaching a fever pitch and the popular figures and accessories were getting harder and harder to keep on toy shelves. After debuting in September of 1985, the Thundercats animated series was competing with GI Joe and Transformers as one of the most popular kid shows on television. ![]() They had one of the most successful animated shows on television, and a hugely popular comic book line from Marvel Comics, through their Star Brand.
